Generic Skills

The Engineering Physics Degree incorporates 7 generic skills common to all UPC degrees plus 3 specific of these studies (see pdf file):

  • 1. EIN - ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION: Knowing about and understanding how businesses are run and the sciences that govern their activity. Having the ability to understand labor laws and how planning, industrial and marketing strategies, quality and profits relate to each other
  • 2. SCS - SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL COMMITMENT: Being aware of and understanding the complexity of social and economic phenomena that characterize the welfare society. Having the ability to relate welfare to globalization and sustainability. Being able to make a balanced use of techniques, technology, the economy and sustainability..
  • 3. TLG - THIRD LANGUAGE: Learning a third language, preferably English, to a degree of oral and written fluency that fits in with the future needs of the graduates of each course.
  • 4. COE - EFFICIENT ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION: Communicating verbally and in writing about learning outcomes, thought-building, and decision-making. Taking part in debates about issues related to the own field of specialization.
  • 5. TEQ - TEAMWORK: Being able to work as a team member, either as a member or as leader. Contributing to projects pragmatically and responsibly, by reaching commitments in accordance to the resources that are available.
  • 6. URI - EFFECTIVE USE OF INFORMATI0N RESOURCES: Managing the acquisition, structure, analysis and display of information from the own field of specialization. Taking a critical stance with regard to the results obtained.
  • 7. AAT - SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING: Detecting gaps in one's knowledge and overcoming them through critical self-appraisal. Choosing the best path for broadening one's knowledge.
  • 8. CRPE EF - ABILITY TO IDENTIFY, FORMULATE, AND SOLVE PHYSICAL ENGINEERING PROBLEMS: Planning and solving physical engineering problems with initiative, making decisions and with creativity. Developing methods of analysis and problem solving in a systematic and creative way
  • 9. CSC EF - ABILITY TO CONCEIVE, DESIGN, IMPLEMENT, AND OPERATE COMPLEX PHYSICAL ENGINEERING SYSTEMS: Ability to conceive, design, implement, and operate complex systems in the fields of micro and nano technology, electronics, advanced materials, photonics, biotechnology, and space and nuclear sciences
  • 10. ECI EF - EXPERIMENTATION AND KNOWLEDGE OF TOOLS AND INSTRUMENTS: Coping comfortably in a physical engineering lab environment. Operating physical engineering tools and instruments, and interpreting their manuals and specifications. Evaluating the errors and limitations of measurements and simulation results.
